On Masik Shivaratri, devotees wake up early, take a bath, and offer water, milk, and Bilva leaves to the Shiva lingam. They observe day-long fasts, meditate, and participate in night-long prayers and hymns. The festival culminates with the breaking of the fast the next day, after performing special rituals.
