Chakravarti Rajagopalachari, also known as Rajaji, was an Indian politician, independence activist, lawyer, writer, and statesman. He was the last Governor-General of India and the first Indian to hold that office. Rajagopalachari was also one of the founders of the Swatantra Party, which was a conservative and free-market political party in India.
Born on December 10, 1878, in Thorapalli Village, in the Madras Presidency of British India, Rajagopalachari was a prominent figure in the Indian independence movement. He was a close associate of Mahatma Gandhi and was actively involved in various non-cooperation and civil disobedience movements led by the Indian National Congress. Rajagopalachari was also a prolific writer and translator, known for his literary works in English, Tamil, and Hindi.
